Storyjoy

Surfacing and crafting meaning into unforgettable stories

What we do

Storyjoy is a storytelling studio developing and producing work across film, art, digital, and live experiences. We take stories from their first fragile emergence through to full production and distribution.

We work with unvarnished human moments often left unseen: those quiet exchanges, unscripted gestures, and the spaces between words. We uncover and navigate existing loyalties, conveniences, and fears. From these fragments, we craft narratives that feel intimate, precise, and enduring. Stories that audiences find compelling and shareable.

STORYTELLING ACROSS FIELDS

Film
DOCUMENTARY, ANIMATIONS, & MUSIC VIDEOS

Film

From Emmy-nominated documentaries and animated Get Out the Vote music videos to social media content, our work in moving images takes many forms. What connects it all is a belief that every story has a deeper truth waiting to be uncovered, and that even the smallest moment can leave a lasting impression.

Art & Culture
EXHIBITIONS, ILLUSTRATION, MURALS, & ANIMATION, ILLUSTRATION

Art & Culture

It's through the lens of art and design that we address and frame challenges, not as a product but as a philosopy.

Technology
DIGITAL MARKETING, WEBSITES, & SOCIAL MEDIA

Technology

What's the secret behind our digital storytelling? We treat every story as a conversation with a real person. Because at the end of the day, your audience isn't an algorithm. It's human.

Academia
ILLUSTRATIONS, WEBSITES, & WORKSHOPS

Academia

We're drawn to complex ideas and difficult questions, then finding ways to make them accessible, not just understood, but felt in a tangible way.

Events
LIVE PERFORMANCES, CULTURAL GATHERINGS & WORKSHOPS

Events

We design, promote, and create in-person events where attendees leave with the lasting knowledge that they're part of a bigger movement. We've collaborated with cultural institutions, schools, and houses of worship to build bridges across cultures and generations.

About

It all started with architecture. I was designing and building emotional spaces for clients to write the intimate stories of their own lives.

Storyjoy was founded by Joy Lau in 2022 as a storytelling studio focused on crafting stories that uncover the deeper meaning behind human will and the motivations shaped by outward desire and hope, including hidden loyalties, conveniences, and fear.

After more than a decade as an architect, designing emotional spaces where clients could create their own stories, Joy changed careers and brought her experience of creating intimate environments into visual storytelling. Across all Storyjoy projects, from illustration, animation, and film, to large-scale live events, participants and audiences often describe a deeper, more meaningful connection to themselves through the stories they encounter.

Services

We collaborate to work across forms. Our flexibility lies in finding and carrying the core story to completion.

  • We work alongside communities to gather, shape, and share the stories they already hold — through workshops, listening sessions, and long-form creative collaboration.

  • Character-driven documentary work made with patience and care — short films, series, and feature projects rooted in lived experience.

  • Hand-crafted animation that brings memory, metaphor, and quiet interior worlds to the screen — used on its own or woven through live-action work.

  • Narrative-led campaigns for cultural institutions, foundations, and mission-driven brands that are built around real voices rather than messaging.

  • Screenings, installations, and gatherings that turn finished work back into shared experience — meeting audiences in person, in place.

  • Honest, cinematic storytelling for organizations whose work deserves to be felt — not pitched. Documentary craft applied to brand and identity.
